How we keep PicaLook a lovely place to look around.
Last updated:
PicaLook works best when it feels like a good gallery: lots of different voices, and room for everyone to stop and look. These guidelines apply to everything published here, including posts, cover photos, images, profiles and comments.
The short version
Share what you know and love, credit what is not yours, and treat readers and other writers the way you would like to be treated. If you would feel uncomfortable showing a post to the people in it, think twice before you publish it.
Your pictures and your words
- Publish photos you took or made yourself, or ones you have permission to use. When you use someone else’s work with permission, credit them.
- No plagiarism. Do not copy other people’s writing or images and present them as your own, and do not infringe anyone’s copyright.
- Do not impersonate another person, brand or organisation, whether in your name, your portrait or your posts.
- Do not share other people’s private information, such as home addresses, phone numbers, identity documents or private photos.
Never allowed
- Anything illegal.
- Sexual content involving minors, of any kind. We remove it and close the blog.
- Malware, phishing, or pages and files designed to trick people into handing over information.
- Deceptive or harmful links, such as links disguised as something they are not.
- Harassment, hate or threats aimed at a person or a group.
Links
Links on PicaLook are ordinary links. You are welcome to link to your own website and to the sources behind your stories. Keep every link honest: the words should describe where it goes, and the page at the other end should be safe to open.
Comments
Comments are where a story turns into a conversation, so keep them on topic and civil. Disagree with an idea rather than attacking a person, and leave out advertising and repeated messages. Every guest comment is reviewed before it appears, and moderators may decline comments that do not fit these guidelines.
When something breaks the rules
Our moderators may remove posts, images or comments, and may close blogs that break these guidelines. Serious or repeated problems are handled more firmly. If you see something that should not be here, tell us through the contact page and choose “Report a post or comment”, or “Copyright” for your own work used without permission.
We may update these guidelines from time to time. When we do, the date at the top of this page changes.
