Terms of use
The ground rules, written to be read.
Last updated:
These terms are the ground rules for using PicaLook, whether you are here to read, to comment or to write. By using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
The service
PicaLook is a blogging platform for visual, story-first writing. Reading is free and needs no account. Writer accounts are by invitation only, and there is no public sign-up. We may change, pause or discontinue any part of the service, including individual features, at any time.
Writer accounts
If you have been invited to write here, keep your sign-in details private. You are responsible for what happens on your account. If you think someone else has access to it, let us know straight away through the contact page. We may withdraw an invitation, or suspend or close an account, that breaks these terms or the guidelines.
Your content
Writers keep ownership of everything they publish, including their words and their photos. By publishing on PicaLook, you give us permission to host, store, display and distribute your content as needed to run the service: on your blog, on topic pages, in thumbnails and tiles, and in RSS feeds. This permission lasts while your content is published here. You can ask us to remove a post or your whole blog at any time; copies that feed readers have already received are outside our control.
Responsibility for what you publish
Writers are responsible for their own posts, images and links, and must have the right to publish them. Readers are responsible for the comments they post. We do not check every post before it is published, and the views in a post belong to its writer.
Comments
Anyone can comment with a name. Guest comments are reviewed before they appear, and we may decline or remove any comment. By posting a comment, you give us permission to display it with the post it belongs to.
Removing content
We may remove posts, images or comments, and close blogs, that break these terms, the guidelines or the law, or that we reasonably believe put readers at risk. To report something, use the contact page and choose “Report a post or comment”.
Copyright complaints
If you believe your work appears on PicaLook without permission, contact us and choose “Copyright”. Tell us which work is yours, the link where it appears and how you are connected to it. We will review the request and may remove the content.
Using the site fairly
Please do not try to disrupt or overload the site, probe or break its security, get around its spam limits, or flood the comment and contact forms. Automated access that slows the site down for other people is not allowed.
Links to other sites
Posts often link to other websites. Those sites are run by other people, and we are not responsible for what they contain or how they work.
No warranty
PicaLook is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not promise that the site will always be available, free of errors or suitable for a particular purpose, or that what writers publish is accurate or complete.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, the PicaLook team is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for any loss of data, arising from your use of the site or your inability to use it. We are also not liable for content published by writers or posted by commenters.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page. If you keep using PicaLook after a change, you accept the updated terms.
Questions
If something here is unclear, ask us through the contact page. We are happy to explain.
